The Premire Northwest Diplomacy Tournament
Seattle's biggest annual Diplomacy tournament is WACcon, so named for the venue it has been traditionally hosted at, the Washington Athletic Club (WAC), located in bustling downtown Seattle.
WACcon has always sought to be a slightly different diplomacy experience. Instead of a gaming convention or a rented hotel conference room, the WAC has a slightly cozier, more welcoming feeling to it. While conference rooms are available, the hosts have leveraged bar space, restaurant space, and the Top of the WAC, a dining space with 270 degree views of the Puget Sound from 23 stories in the sky. Another signature piece of the WAC event is the catering the hosts provide as part of the entrance fee, which in the past has taken the form of everything from a prime rib dinner to pub appetizers.
Beyond the venue, the event itself has a many year history of innovation and experimentation with format and scoring structure. WAC has tried top boards that run without time limit, scoring systems designed by physicists, and 4 day long events. WACcon will continue to explore new ideas and provide a stage for those ideas to be tested and proven.
