Face to Face Ratings

Diplomacy players have a lot of differing opinions about ratings systems. While some players feel the offer little or no insight into the skill of a player, others live and die by them. Despite the lingering questions, many players enjoy using them as a way to compete against their peers, and showcase their skills. The Diplomatic Pouch does not endorse any particular ratings system, but has enjoyed watching them all!

The American Diplomacy Register Ratings are maintained by Buz Eddy. Buz takes a strict view of draws, substituting Calhamer's rule that all draws are equal for the tie breakers used by many torunament directors. Any face to face Diplomacy game played in North America is welcome to be included in the ADR.

A European Ratings system is maintained by Duncan Adams. Duncan's system awards points based on what place you score in organized tournaments, with bonuses available for solid performance in the most improtant European tournaments.

Another kind of competition along the lines of rankings, is the concept of the "rally". First implemented in Sweden, this idea has caught on in Australia and in North America.

The Swedish Diplomacy Rally awards points to players who perform well in Swedish tournaments.

Sponsored by DAANZ, The Bismark Cup awards points based on performance in tournaments in Australia and New Zealand.

In just its second year, The American Diplomacy Register Grand Prix has filled an important nitche in the North American hobby.
